Secret site launch!

Bent archives WIPDecided to launch the new site and not tell anyone. Why? Well…. it’s not really done.

Some of the big changes include the removal of the ”compilations” pages. They’re just on lots of compilations, okay? I didn’t feel this info was very relevant, except for when the track in question is an exclusive. So, that page became ”Compilation only / Free tracks” where I also list the music given out for free online. Tracks have appeared on Soundcloud, Facebook etc and although they may not be available there any more, they are now ”out there” for you to seek…

Another change is this blog you’re reading. I’m going to try to post news tidbits as well as my own thoughts and other Bent info that might be of interest. There should be a RSS feed here somewhere for you to put into whatever thing you like to read your news in. You know what I mean. Or just check back here from time to time and have a look.

The links page is not only quite dull right now, it’s also full of links to pages that might now be active at all any more. Not sure what to do about that, but there it is.

I’m in the process of updating the MP3 clips page to make it up to date with all the new and old stuff. I’ll let you know when that’s done.

The lyrics. Oh, the lyrics. There are two ways to go here. Either you help me (good) or I’ll just drop that altogether (bad). Some of the tracks have so many ??? in them that it’s actually quite embarassing. And I don’t get embarassed easily. Also, a bunch of new tracks from the Vaults to enter there.

Like I said, some more work to do but here it is. Oh, and guess what: You can comment on this blog. Isn’t that great? Go ahead, try it.

The olden news

Below shall ye find the olden news from the previous site of webs.

3 May 2013:

This site will migrate to a WordPress installation, which means I can post small news tidbits easily and you can get updates easily via RSS feeds etc.

Still no definite release date for the Vaults, but there are always things going on with Simon and Neil. Nails vinyl release ”Ode Rammel” has so far sold 1,500 copies and is due for a second repress, and there’s lots of updates on their Facebook pages: NAIL and Napoleon.

26 February 2013:

As we near the releases of two volumes of unreleased material from Bent, it was high time to update the site. Both Simon and Neil have been busy doing all sorts of stuff, but as explained below this site deals only with Bent since there is just so much to keep track of! Simon’s Napoleon album was released, some remixes were made and another album is due soon. Neil have been keeping busy releasing old and new sounds in a wide range of styles, mainly on his Bandcamp page. The guys like to keep us in the dark though, so I’m sure there are Bent bits here and there that I’ve missed, although nowadays Discogs is a great source of information. So, you know, I steal shit from there.

23 August 2011:

More than two years later, an update. Or rather, a downdate. I’ve actually removed info off the site simply because I was getting to a point where I was reaching too far and finding it too hard to keep up. That’s why you can no longer find pages for Simons and Neils projects outside of Bent.

You are recommended to check their discogs.com pages for more info: Simon Mills and Neil Tolliday, as well as their Facebook page for updates and free tracks. This site will very soon be updated with more Bent info.

15 August 2009:

If you’re not satisfied and want to get even more new Bent, then do not fear: Always Remixes is out soon! Remixers are Mighty Mouse and Trevor Loveys. According to Mighty Mouse, they’ve remixes Swollen as well for release in September.

12 August 2009:

Go now to the Bent MySpace page to get a free track (Lollipop Lady, the last of the infamous competition EP tracks), and Simon promises more free tracks soon!

25 July 2009:

Instead of updating the MP3 clips with the new Best Of tracks, I have now created a Simon & Eliza page (removed aug 2011). The lyrics section is still a work in progress though. There’s a few ???’s in there, and if you want to help just email me. Also I’ve prepared the menu above for the hinted-at next album as well as a Goose Fair Island page. I will also expand the iTunes page to a Bent digital downloads links page with more shops.

28 June 2009:

The release date and track list for the Best Of is finally upon us. It’s got a great selection of singles, album tracks and unreleased stuff. Not only that, but there will be a couple (I’m guessing two) packs of 12″ vinyls with selected remixes, as of yet unknown. Check out the discog Era 4 for the details! The album release of Nails project Goose Fair Island is pushed back to after the Best Of business has settled down, but you can listen to a couple of more tracks now on the GFI MySpace page.

21 April 2009:

Right. Well, we’ve passed the site’s 6th birthday (yay) and here’s some news for you by way of Bents MySpace page: ”We are currently getting ready for the release of our ’Best of’ comp, due later in the year – it’ll be a double cd and available on itunes.. 2 albums – one of our faves and another of completely unreleased material..” which sounds just perfect to me.

Not only do we also have the Goose Fair Island to look forward to, but Simon has been working with Lenny Annex (which may or may not actually be Simon) and there’s some stuff to listen to at that MySpace page while waiting for Lennys forthcoming EP.

21 January 2009:

Some more updates: Scans of the japanese OBI-strip and info sheet for Intercept! courtesy of a nice guy called Artur. Also, updates in the shape of most of the various images and compilation info which I’ve had laying around for a while. Also also, Goose Fair Island is on MySpace, although there’s nothing there yet.

12 January 2009:

More updates? Yes! As we near the Bent Discogs 6th Anniversary, Nail returns with a new project: Goose Fair Island. It’s a smokefilled, laidback psychedelic chillout-funkfest, and you can listen to several tunes of it right here, with an album called ”Rides” to follow soon. Also join the GFI Facebook group for the latest updates straight from the source.

More info: Simon & Eliza seems to on hold, their MySpace page is gone and details are sketchy. The 10th Anniversary thingie is also on hold due to other commitments.
Watch this space.

22 December 2008:

What, an update? Yes. It’s true. And there are news.

First of all, Simon of Bent has a new project called Simon & Eliza which logically involves Simon and a girl named Eliza. Eliza Wren Payne to be exact.
They’ve been recording an album for a while now, which I’m guessing is coming out pretty soon. If you want to hear their wonderful music, then head out to their MySpace page for some great tunes. They’ve got a website at www.simonandeliza.com too, but there’s nothing there yet.

Bent has been working too. They recently released the 2-CD DJ mix The Art Of Chill 5 on Platipus Records, and while it has no new Bent tracks (although As Seen From Space is on it)
it does have Simon & Elizas It’s Happening, a track with Bent-regular BJ Cole together with Millsy (that’s Simon again) and a chap named Davy Spillane called Pipegroove, and lots more great chillout stuff. Available on CD and as digital download (but I’ve no idea how to purchase the entire album digitally from there).

What’s more, back in January, they remixed Superbass’ track Solution (feat. Relation) and you can shop that from Toolroom Records. If you remember, Superbass did a remix of Waiting For You, the single which never went past the promo stage.

Apparantly, the 10th Anniversary thingie is now set for 2009. (No really, did it being December 22nd give it away?) Still no more information on this. Or maybe it’s out and I don’t know about it. Nobody tells me anything anymore.

9 April 2008:

A little design update. Dropped the javascript menu and went with a simpler and more obvious menu in a frameset. Each page has a little submenu up top if needed. No content updates, though. I’m sorry.

17 February 2008:

A nice guy called Artur from Russia provides some info and scans on Kosheen releases as well as a Max Sedgley promo CD, and a To Be Loved four-track CDR including the iTunes-only Mr.B remix. Many thanks to him!

10 January 2008:

On a blogpost on their MySpace page, Bent tells us of their plans to mark their 10th anniversary:
”I’d like to mention that we have a few hopes for this year… one of them is hopefully the release of a ’Bent’s Greatest Hits’ (heheheheh!) to mark a decade of sample squishing and knob twiddling, so watch this space for further details.. I’m sure we’ll be kind enough to plop on some new bits, old secrets and other treats of a Bent nature!”

Not only that, but they later on add:
”think of it more of a DVD with more unreleased stuff (we do have about 250 tracks in our archive) demos, track notes, photos, behind-the-scenes footage, and a proper write up on the whole thing so far… It’s a fingers crossed from us too, it takes a bit of planning!”

This sounds absolutely fantastic, so let’s hope this comes to fruition!

There has also been some secret updates around here these last few months. Some MP3 clips and the likes.

15 October 2007:

The new single is the double whammy of The Handbrake / Leavin’ Me, whose release is still a bit sketchy. There’s a 7″ vinyl with the album versions (and a CDR promo of the same) and also a CDR promo containing a couple of remixes. If these remixes will appear on official release or on iTunes, I’ve not been able to find out.

But until then, why not check out Cathy Davey’s new album Tales Of Silversleeve? You might remember her beautiful voice from Winter Wonderland and the sadly not-included-on-Intercept! Broken. Everything you need to know is right here: http://www.myspace.com/cathydavey .

25 September 2007:

I sometimes get emails from people having trouble finding rare Bent in their record shops. I mostly suggest going to eBay, where the limited vinyls and hard-to-find remixes pop up every now and then. If you need an immediate Bent fix, then I’ve set up an iTunes link page, which gives you an overlook of all Bent related material there. However, iTunes is set up with different content for different countries, so be aware not everything is available everywhere. For example, the UK shop doesn’t offer Programmed To Love, while the Swedish shop does.

Older updates can now be found HERE.

12 September 2007:

Check out the MP3 Clips page for a snippet of the Roma remix, or just run along to iTunes to shop for it, and one or two versions of the original, apparantly written by a Nino Rota. If you’re interested in the film from which it was taken, have a look here.

16 August 2007:

A new Bent remix is on the way, it’s on a compilation called Cinematic: Classic Film Music Remixed and I guess the title pretty much says it all. Bent have remixed Fellini’s Roma and you can read more about the CD here, and also hear some clips. It’s due out on September 11th.

14 July 2007:

Some restructuring, the albums/singles page is broken down into four sections: Programmed To Love, The Everlasting Blink, Ariels and Intercept! eras.

30 June 2007:

Just a small adjustment – the new URL for the site is http://bent.heltperfekt.com/. Don’t worry, the old URL redirects here, but update any bookmarks you might have anyway. An interesting effect to this is that I get rid of all the people linking to my images, muahahaaa!

26 June 2007:

The softlad comes through once again, supplying the Downloaded To Love site
which is now online again right here. Although for bandwidth reasons I’m not hosting the actual MP3s, but you can still grab them off the official site right here. The day is saved! Possibly. Oh, and that secret project – it’s not happening. 😛

14 February 2007:

there was a secret update the other day, but don’t tell anyone I told you. oh, and the site’s been up for 4 years. yay.

i’m also working on a secret project relating to this site. if you want to help, let me know.

30 November 2006:

A few additions: Bent’s remix of The Cuban Brothers, pics of a CDR promo of To Be Loved (which is also released on iTunes but apparantly not on official CD) and a remix of Faithless’ track Reasons (Saturday Night) under the name Goldrun (used before with the Grand Popo Football Club remix). Thanks to softlad for the scans and to Spinback for the Faithless discovery.

12 October 2006:

Updated with some MP3 clips for the To Be Loved remixes, check them out!

4 October 2006:

The single To Be Loved is being postponed to 16 October because of troubles to get the records ready in time, but promos include remixes by Soulchild and Toby Tobias. MP3 clips of these very soon!

20 September 2006:

Are the Bent lads trying to pull a fast one on us? The tracklisting for Intercept! on Play.com says so! The CD version appears to have extra tracks which were not on the promo or iTunes! I’m waiting for more concrete proof on this until I add it to the discog, but I wouldn’t put it past them! 😀 One of the two extra tracks, Harlequin Bitch is also on the prize EP in the running competition.

18 September 2006:

Go on to iTunes and grab yourself a copy of Intercept! right now. Do it!

Then take a look at the Grand National remix of Comin’ Back, why don’t you? You can find it on it’s own promo CDR or the Canadian version of Ariels. Check out the MP3 clip along with some other Comin’ Back remixes I had apparantly missed to put there.

Oh, and prepare for the To Be Loved single also coming soon.

12 August 2006:

Bent offers a little competition on their website, in which you can win one of ten EPs with exclusive tracks!

Intercept! is coming out! Check out clips from all the tracks on the MP3 page… but where is Broken?! Maybe it will be on the single…

And how about some lyrics…? Not only for Intercept! but also for Beauty And The Beast! Yes, indeed. A fellow named Greg from France sent me the odd conversation that takes place in there, along with a translation. He says: ”It’s actually a hilarious parody of the french ”Nouvelle
Vague” romantic films”. So there.

5 August 2006:

Another remix surfaces, it’s International Peoples Gang and their track That’s Her which has been found on a CDR promo. It’s a great Bent remix as always if you can find that one! Thanks to softlad for the image and details!

31 July 2006:

Bent offers some track names for what is now named Intercept! and not ahrr FUNK. Release date is set to late september, with a yet unnamed single to be released before that. I’ve got more things to update, but not the time and strength. Coming soon though!

17 May 2006:

We are nearing the release of ”ahrr FUNK”! Today Bent put four of the tracks on MySpace for us all to hear. Follow this link to the goods: http://www.myspace.com/bentworld !

Their official site is still down. During the day I will update this site best I can with info on ”ahrr FUNK” and maybe even some lyrics.

Updated info on some records: what little know about ahrr FUNK, the Alexis Strum remix (MP3 clip have been up a while) and the We Love Yule album with Winter Wonderland featuring Cathy Davey now have info and images.

New MP3 clips and partial lyrics: Broken, Leavin’ Me, To Be Loved and The Handbrake from ”ahrr FUNK”, and Winter Wonderland from We Love Yule.

Added some more records: Balance 007, CD + 12″ with As You Fall (Micah Remix). Merry Mixmas with the Bing Crosby Winter Wonderland remix, Global Underground: Miami 027 with Exercise 5, Café Mambo Ibiza 2005 with I Can’t Believe It’s Over, and Taste Italy with Now I Must Remember.

Also wrote down lyrics for Donkeys In Heaven and Your Smile In My Eyes. There are quite a few question marks in the ”ahrr FUNK” lyrics so get listening and let me know what they are…

5 April 2006:

It’s been over a year since my last update, however not there hasn’t been much to report. However, things are heating up as Bent will release an iTunes album called ”ahrr FUNK” any time now, and the next album should follow soon. I promise to make a proper update soon.

Also, the link for Downloaded To Love has been outdated a long time, but you can get it from the official site (click on media) as soon as they sort out their domain problems…

23 March 2005:

Bent updates the official site and fills their media page with lots of full mp3s! Check out unreleased stuff like the full version of Blue from PTL and demo versions of Sunday Boy and Lupin Glade among others! This is awesome stuff, thanks guys!

16 March 2005:

Nail tells me Bent will start recording their fourth (ok, fifth) album in April. Good news for all!

Some slight updates, images I’d forgotten to insert and a few compilations, for example Invisible Pedestrian is on the soundtrack for CSI: Miami!

14 March 2005:

New URL for the site. I’ve relocated the site to www.heltperfekt.com/bent so update any bookmarks you might have. (note: ”helt perfekt” is swedish for ”completely perfect”)

MP3 remix originals clips are all back, and I hope everything works as it should.

10 February 2005:

The discography is now two years online! Celebrating with two new remixes coming soon: Billie Holidays Speak Low, and Bing Crosby singing Winter Wonderland has been Bent by the boys, check out the MP3 clips, thanks to Simon! A few compilations and such are added here and there.

This site will soon move to a new location with more webspace, stay tuned.

10 November 2004:

Check out the MP3 clips of Flavour Country on the MP3 page, but the last track of the EP, ”Continue..?” is not there… and you’ll find out why when you buy it! While you’re there, also listen to the Max Sedgley remix. The sound clips of the remix originals are temporarily offline as I’ve yet again filled up my web quota!

22 October 2004:

Thanks to Katty the holes in the Ariels lyrics have been filled! Also added is the coming EP called Flavour Country. Check it out under Albums/Singles.

3 October 2004:

Added Ariels lyrics – although they’re at times… umm… very sporadic. Boy, do I need help with these.

Also threw in the latest of Bents remixes, Max Sedgleys Happy (Bent Power Droid Mix). MP3 clips when I have the strength.

30 August 2004:

Long overdue update with many nice things:

Added: Ariels 5 track promo CD, Comin’ Back promo 12″s and non-promo 12″ + CDS, ANOTHER Programmed To Love version, two José Padilla singles, a Funki Porcini CD single, and a guest appearance by Bent on BJ Cole’s album! (Find this under Compilations/Compilation Only Tracks)

New MP3 clips: BJ Cole, Ariels album, the Serge Santiago Dub and Reverso 68 Dub of Comin’ Back, Sunchime, You Have Been Watching, the Themroc Jack On Remix of Stay The Same and Nails track Slap My Ass.

Coming soon: Ariels lyrics.

20 July 2004:

Added pictures of the Ariels promo, and another Stay The Same acetate, thanks to Dog Solitude! soft_lad contributes Comin’ Back CD promo images! Also some various images of compilations and remix versions.

15 July 2004:

Removed a whole bunch of scanned images. Seriously, it was getting ridiculous.

Added tracklist for Ariels.

3 July 2004:

Added a whole bunch of scanned images. Welcome back, Clutter.

29 June 2004:

Added a few MP3 clips: remix and original of Lighthouse Family’s track Free, and a track by Nail called (I Don’t Wanna) Hurt U. Flipside of that 12″ coming soon.

28 June 2004:

Bent announces the following news on their next album: It’s called Ariels and ”features the vocal talents of Katty (Us, Herb Birds), Rachel Foster (Weekend Players, Shod Collective), Steve Edwards (Presence, Cassius, X-Press 2, Fila Brazilia) and Sian Evans (Kosheen).
BJ Cole also stars, along with a host of musicians from Nottingham to…well, er, London.
” It will be released on August 9th, and will be preceeded by a single called Comin’ Back.

The updates on the site includes a few compilations and more versions of remixed singles, plus a Magic Love/An Ordinary Day promo CD-single. Stay tuned for many new cover images courtesy of my new scanner.

15 April 2004:

What’s on the bonus 7″ included with the limited edition double vinyl of Programmed To Love? We have the answer. You can also find info on various compilations, a Swollen promo 12″ with the exclusive Dusted Instrumental Mix, but the goodie in this update is a Bent remix of Brenda Fassie’s Sum Bulala. Hear a clip of it on the MP3-page, where I have, in an attempt to break as many copyrights as possible, now also put a bunch of clips from the original versions of Bent remixes. Also, there are a couple of new MP3 clips which for some reason wasn’t there before.

29 Feb 2004:

Updates: Added asian ATB CD with 9PM Till I Come (Bent Remix), australian Magic Love / Stay The Same CD-single, The Everlasting Blink on the Perfecto Chills vol.1 compilation,

19 Feb 2004:

Very small update: I noticed there were three tracks missing from the MP3s, as well as one misnamed… I promise you I’ve gone through that list MANY times, and still there are these errors!

Expect a more comprehensive update very soon, there are some interesting additions to be made as well as… well, yet another weird thing. The advertisement infos are COMPLETELY wrong! What?! Am I on drugs?

If you find any more faults or have more additions and infos, please just tell me! I’m going crazy here.

20 Dec 2003:

A great christmas present comes courtesy of the SoftLad: The Downloaded To Love site in its entirety. Yes, the MP3s are all there, along with great info on each track by Simon and Neil.
